The Safe and Green Games campaign was launched in Honiara on Friday. A colorful parade from both sides of the city, to Lawson Tama commenced the campaign. Government workers, representatives from State Owned Enterprises, communities including school children were all part of the activities today. The official launching of the program took place at Lawson Tama with the Prime Minister as Chief Guest including the Honiara City Mayor.
The Safe and Green Games campaign is to promote a safe and clean Honiara city leading up to the Pacific Games in November. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says the country has less than 262 days to go before the Games. He says millions of people worldwide will be watching the games ‘live’ come November, thus it is important that residents take care of the city.
‘I ask you to join me in announcing Honiara our city, my city and your city’ says Honiara City Mayor Eddie Siapu. The three-day event as part of the launch campaign continued on Saturday 4th March 2023 with a big clean-up activity from Henderson to White River. The campaign launch will end with a combined church service at St. Barnabas Cathedral on Sunday March 5th. The National Hosting Authority calls on all members of the community to support and work together during and through the campaign period.
