Visit Marks Strengthened Ties Between Finland and Solomon Islands.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele welcomed His Excellency Mr. Arto Haapea, the new Ambassador of Finland to the Solomon Islands. This visit coincided with H.E. Haapea’s presentation of credentials to the Governor General, His Excellency Reverend David Tipa Kapu.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Manele congratulated H.E. Haapea on his appointment. He noted that this visit symbolizes a strengthened relationship between Finland and the Solomon Islands.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Finland’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. H.E. Haapea highlighted potential partnerships in sustainable forestry and fisheries, showcasing Finland’s expertise in environmental management.
The leaders discussed challenges like climate change and economic development. They emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two countries and aimed to identify opportunities for cooperation.
Finland has supported initiatives in governance, education, and health in the Solomon Islands. This support primarily occurs through multilateral platforms such as the European Union and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
