North Vella La Vella sends 1,730 rice bags to cyclone-hit communities, supporting families after widespread damage
The North Vella La Vella Constituency (NVC), under the leadership of Honourable Clezy Rore, on Monday, 13 April 2026, rolled out its relief assistance with 1,730 bags of rice dispatched to cyclone-affected communities in the constituency.
Constituency Project Officer Stephen Lupeqeto said that the relief support is part of the constituency’s firm commitment and efforts to ensure families and affected communities are provided with food to sustain their lives during this difficult time.
“Our communities in North Vella La Vella are among the hardest hit by the cyclone, with food gardens, properties, and infrastructure destroyed,” Mr. Lupeqeto said.
With the severity of the cyclone’s impact on the communities, Mr. Lupeqeto said the constituency office, without delay, took responsibility and responded in time to provide relief food while awaiting assistance from the government and other responsible authorities.
“As of Monday, this week, our constituency team, together with community leaders, organized and coordinated the dispatch of food supplies, especially rice from Gizo, and distributed them to the 30 affected communities,” he said.
He added that all logistical arrangements and food supplies were managed by the constituency office, reflecting a commitment and responsibility to prioritize the people first.
The relief food supplies were funded by the constituency office under its Constituency Development Funds (CDF) budget, allocated by the Solomon Islands Government through the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD).
Cyclone Maila caused significant destruction across Western and Choiseul provinces last week, damaging properties, infrastructure, and food gardens.
On behalf of Honourable Rore, CPO Lupeqeto expressed compassion for the affected families and urged community leaders and individuals to work together and support one another during this challenging time.
He also acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved in the relief distribution, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort in rebuilding the affected communities of North Vella La Vella.
