The US Embassy has refuted an article published by the newspaper, Solomon Star – claiming the US is behind an assassination scheme of the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare in 2021. The story titled Top Secret Out claimed that a seven member assassination squad handpicked for the job was given support by the United States.
The Solomon Star article said “According to the sources, a seven-member assassination squad handpicked for the job was given support by the United States. Solomon Star has withheld the names of squad members”.
The paper also said ” According to the source, the US had promised to take good care of M4D members who are charged with organizing illegal activities. The US would send them to other countries to escape imprisonment. One of my fellows, …who was convicted of holding illegal assembly is now in the UK, safe and sound, this source said. The M4D revelation is the first time the United States is directly linked to meddling in Solomon Islands’ domestic affairs. Targeted peace-time killing is a breach of international human rights conventions”, the Solomon Star said.
But the US Public Diplomacy Officer based in Papua New Guinea says the United States condemns the wild allegations published in the Solomon Star Newspaper. Mr. Damian Wampler says it is not the first time for the author to come up with unsubstantiated claims against the United States of America.
