Prime Minister Matthew Wale arrives in Fiji for Pre-COP31 talks, focusing on climate finance and Pacific priorities.
Prime Minister Matthew Wale has arrived in Nadi, Fiji to participate in the Pre-COP31 High-Level Meeting.
The meeting brings together Pacific and international leaders ahead of the 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31).
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister and the Minister for Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management & Meteorology Hon. Wayne Ghemu held a briefing with Solomon Islands officials ahead of his first bilateral engagement this evening with Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown.
The Prime Minister’s programme continues tomorrow with an address to the High-Level Political Session.
He is expected to highlight the importance of blue and green capital, climate finance and key signals for COP31, particularly the need for Pacific priorities to be reflected in global climate action.
Prime Minister Wale will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with fellow leaders and partners before attending a traditional welcome ceremony hosted by Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka tomorrow.
As part of the programme, Prime Minister Wale will travel with fellow leaders to Tuvalu on Tuesday before returning to Fiji the same day to attend the Leaders Plenary.
The Plenary will bring together Pacific and partner leaders, including the Prime Ministers of Australia, Fiji, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Palau and Vanuatu, among other leaders for high-level discussions on shared regional priorities ahead of COP31.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to depart Fiji and return to Honiara on Wednesday.
