Independent Leader Peter Shanel Agovaka has joined other political leaders in paying tribute to the late MP David Gina.
In a condolence statement, Agovaka extended sympathy to Gina’s wife, children, relatives and constituents on behalf of the Independent Group in Parliament and his office staff.
He described Gina’s death as a loss to Parliament and Solomon Islands, as well as to his family and the people he represented.
Gina was serving as Deputy Speaker of Parliament at the time of his death.
Agovaka said his passing meant losing a colleague who had shared the responsibility of representing communities and contributing to national development.
“The passing of Hon. David Gina is therefore not simply the loss of a parliamentary colleague, but the loss of a fellow servant of our people,” he said.
He urged fellow leaders to value one another and serve with humility and compassion, saying their shared humanity extended beyond political differences.
Agovaka also offered prayers for the bereaved family and gave thanks for Gina’s life and public service.

His tribute follows a condolence message from Opposition Leader Manasseh Sogavare, who recognised Gina’s contribution to Parliament, Western Province and the country.
