Prime Minister Sogavare Highlights Maturity and Collective Commitment
The Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA) attributes its success to political stability, showcasing the maturity of a government that remains steadfast in pursuing the development interests of the Solomon Islands, irrespective of foreign pressures.
In his Parliament Sine Die statement, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare proudly declared that the DCGA had upheld its conviction that political stability serves as the primary catalyst for development. According to Prime Minister Sogavare, the DCGA exemplifies political maturity, fostering stability through a collective commitment to the nation’s progress, resulting in remarkable outcomes.
“Political stability stands as one of DCGA’s enduring legacies,” emphasized Prime Minister Sogavare, noting that the enhanced trust and confidence of development partners have led to increased collaboration and assistance aligned with the country’s national priorities.
Highlighting the proactive approach of the DCGA, Prime Minister Sogavare mentioned the drafting of key legislations for pivotal reforms that had been deferred by previous administrations. These include reforms in land management, tax policies, investment attraction strategies, forestry development, and mineral development.
Commending the DCGA for its resilience and unwavering commitment, Prime Minister Sogavare characterized the government’s political stability as a demonstration of political maturity and a positive shift in political behavior. He asserted that, since independence, no government has matched the DCGA’s performance in terms of both the number and monetary value of transformative projects and reforms. This success, he emphasized, stems from the government’s unwavering belief in maintaining political stability even amid uncertain circumstances.
Sogavare further highlighted a significant achievement—the absence of politicians driven solely by personal motives in Parliament. He recounted past instances where individuals sought political office merely to become Prime Ministers, often resorting to instigating political instability. Warning against such self-serving agendas, the Prime Minister asserted that the country requires strong leaders who prioritize national interests over foreign pressures.
The 11th Parliament will dissolve on the 31st of December 2023 and the DCGA will assume caretaker mode until the next National General Election, presumably in April 2024.
