Deputy PM Francis Sade urges unity, dialogue and learning from history during Guadalcanal’s 2nd Appointed Day
DEPUTY Prime Minister Hon. Francis Sade has reaffirmed the importance of history, dialogue and unity in shaping the future of Guadalcanal Province and Solomon Islands as a whole.
Speaking as guest of honour during the Guadalcanal 2nd Appointed Day at the National Stadium yesterday, Hon. Sade emphasized that history remains the nation’s greatest teacher.
He recalled key moments in history such as the events of 1988, 1998, the Townsville Peace Agreement and the long constitutional journey since independence.
“These experiences have taught that grievances must be addressed early, dialogue must never be abandoned and unity must be built through the honest management of differences rather than their denial,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister said in a democratic society, frank and fair discussion is essential.
Hon. Sade acknowledged that the complex challenges of a diverse nation cannot be resolved in a single moment, but require continuous engagement by leaders and enduring faith in the democratic process by the people.
“Empowerment and unity must go hand in hand. Empowering Guadalcanal means uplifting every village, family, church, woman, youth, child and leader through education, meaningful devolution and fair sharing of the nation’s natural wealth,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister said a strong Guadalcanal serves as a pillar of a strong Solomon Islands.
Hon. Sade said history has consistently shown that unity builds peace, peace creates prosperity and prosperity secures a stronger future for generations to come.
He reaffirmed that despite the nation’s diversity of islands, languages and cultures, Solomon Islands continues to forge one nation, patiently, honestly and together.
