Twenty Solomon Islands officials complete Australia-funded Mini MBA to strengthen public sector leadership and governance
Twenty senior officials from 14 Solomon Islands Government agencies have strengthened their leadership and management skills by completing a Mini Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in Brisbane, Australia.
This was the sixth cohort of Solomon Islands officials Australia has supported to attain the Mini MBA, a short course which teaches critical skills of collaboration, communication, innovation and leadership.
Jasper Anisi, CEO of the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission said the course was a transformative experience. “The tools, methods, and strategies I gained have expanded my leadership perspective and provided practical ways to address the evolving demands facing our organisation.
“I now feel better equipped to navigate complexity, drive strategic outcomes, and create lasting organisational impact.”
Mike Qaqara, Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, said the course was helpful for senior decision-making and motivating teams to achieve goals. “This course provided me insight into different types of leadership, and how leadership can adopt change management in our organisations,” Qaqara said.
Australian High Commissioner Jeff Roach said Australia was very pleased to be supporting high-quality professional development opportunities like the Mini MBA.
“Strong leadership across the public service is essential for stronger governance and development in Solomon Islands”, Mr Roach said.
“Australia will continue to provide opportunities for Solomon Islanders to enhance their leadership and management skills to address complex challenges and build a better Solomon Islands.”
The Mini MBA course offers training and professional development to current and emerging leaders across Solomon Islands. Since 2024, a total of 108 officials from 28 government agencies have completed the course in Australia.
