Tandai Highway Upgrade Nears Completion With Improved Traffic Flow. Final works Underway at St John Junction & Rove Police HQ stretch.
The four-lane road upgrade works along Tandai Highway in West Honiara are now nearing completion, with most sections successfully finished and already delivering improved traffic flow and safety benefits to road users. The final major works are currently focused on the stretch between St John School and the Rove Police Headquarters.
The landside section at the Rove Police Headquarters is now open to traffic. Works at the St John junction will resume once weather & ground conditions improve. Upon completion of these remaining sections, the full stretch will be open for public use.
The Rove Roundabout has also been upgraded, and the section leading to the Rove Married Quarters is now accessible to the public.
Meanwhile, construction has commenced on the Rifle Range Roundabout. As works continue in this area, members of the public are advised to exercise caution when travelling through the site, as construction activities and changing weather conditions may result in temporary traffic delays and disruptions.
The project team continues to work steadily to complete the remaining sections, with progress subject to weather and site conditions.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Allan Lilia, acknowledged the cooperation and patience of the public throughout the construction period.
“We appreciate the understanding shown by motorists, businesses, and residents along the Tandai Highway corridor. This upgrade is a significant investment in improving road safety, traffic efficiency, and overall connectivity in Honiara. Once fully completed, it will greatly enhance the daily travel experience for our people and support economic activities within the city,” said Mr Lilia.
Motorists and pedestrians are strongly urged to follow traffic management signage, observe speed limits, and cooperate with traffic controllers on site to ensure everyone’s safety while works are underway.
The upgrade works are being undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) under the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), a collaboration between the Solomon Islands Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
