Honiara, Solomon Islands, Wednesday 31 December 2025 – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele today paid tribute to outgoing Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau during a farewell parade at Rove Field, marking the conclusion of his six-year tenure.
The ceremony was attended by Police Minister Jimson Tanangada, Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers, ranks and file, senior government officials, and representatives of donor and development partners from the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services.
The Prime Minister acknowledged Mr. Mangau’s leadership of the RSIPF from 29 November 2019 to 31 December 2025, noting his role in guiding the organisation during this period.
“Commissioner Mangau has led the RSIPF through both routine duties and challenging times with professionalism and perseverance,” Prime Minister Manele said.
During his tenure, the RSIPF provided security for national and regional events, including the 2023 Pacific Games, the National General Elections, and the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting. These operations contributed to the maintenance of public order and institutional continuity.
The Prime Minister also noted Mr. Mangau’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the RSIPF supported border management, quarantine enforcement, and public order measures while continuing essential policing services.
The launch of the RSIPF 10-Year Strategic Direction was highlighted as a key milestone, providing a framework for reform, capability development, and service delivery over the coming decade.
Prime Minister Manele congratulated incoming Acting Commissioner Mr. Mathias Lenialu and encouraged him to continue implementing the strategic direction established by his predecessor. He also acknowledged RSIPF officers, the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, donor partners, and the family of Mr. Mangau for their support.
