Nukufero community receives new hall funded personally by MP Oliver Salopuka, celebrated with gifts and a large ceremony
The Nukufero community in the Russell Islands officially received their new community hall from the Member of Parliament for the Russell–Savo Constituency, Mr. Oliver Salopuka, on Friday, 21 November 2025.
Hon. Salopuka cut the ribbon and handed over the keys to the village elders. He also presented a public address (PA) system, a generator, and a cash donation of ten thousand dollars ($10,000).
As a gesture of appreciation, community members—both groups and individuals—presented tokens of gratitude. Community leaders Mr. Donald Rangi Vakitaina and Aquila Manoongisefu spoke highly of the MP’s commitment and responsibility toward the development of their village.
MP Salopuka said he was honored to fund the construction of the hall without using constituency funds, emphasizing that the entire project was financed from his own pocket without any government assistance.
He added that Nukufero is the first community to complete such infrastructure, while 12 other communities are still awaiting completion of their own projects.
Thousands of people attended and witnessed the ceremony, which concluded with entertainment.
Hon. Salopuka was accompanied by his wife and constituency officers.
