Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele leads Solomon Islands at UNGA80 in New York, highlighting Pacific priorities
New York, Sunday 21 September 2025 – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has arrived in New York to lead the Solomon Islands delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Prime Minister will also represent the Pacific region in his capacity as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).
On Sunday afternoon, Prime Minister Manele held a briefing with the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum and the Forum Secretariat. The meeting provided an opportunity to align regional priorities and prepare for key engagements during the high-level week of UNGA80.
The Prime Minister also convened a separate briefing with the Solomon Islands delegation to UNGA80.
Prime Minister Manele said the United Nations General Assembly remains a vital platform for Solomon Islands and the Pacific to share their perspectives with the global community.
“Our voices matter. As Solomon Islands and as a Blue Pacific, we are here to highlight the challenges and opportunities that define our region — from climate change and sustainable development to peace, security, and human rights,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister’s programme this week will include delivering Solomon Islands’ national statement to the General Assembly, leading Forum engagements, and holding bilateral meetings with a number of global partners.
The 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) opened on 10 September 2025 in New York. The High-Level Week, where Heads of State and Government deliver their national statements and take part in high-level meetings, runs from 22 – 26 September under the theme “Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”
