Heavy rain warning issued for most Solomon Islands provinces; risks include landslides, flash floods, and poor visibility.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has issued a Heavy Rain Warning for most provinces as a weather trough continues to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms across the country.

Weather satellite observation 28/12/24 at 9pm by SI Met Services. Build up of clouds over our area that will bring rain tonight and tomorrow .

Hazards and Risks

The Meteorological Service warned that localized heavy rain could lead to:

  • Landslides: Communities near hill slopes should remain vigilant.
  • Flash Flooding: Those living close to rivers, streams, and low-lying areas face a heightened risk.
  • Poor Visibility: Sea travelers are advised to exercise caution as reduced visibility may pose significant dangers.

Public Advisory

Residents are strongly encouraged to take necessary safety measures to protect lives and property. Authorities also urge the public to share this information widely, especially with people with disabilities.

Next Update

The next update from the Meteorological Service is scheduled for 7:00 AM tomorrow morning, Sunday, 29th December 2024.

For the latest weather updates and safety recommendations, visit the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service website or contact their office directly on 677 27658 or 933 (Toll Free Number).
