SOLOMON Islands Weightlifting Federation (SIWF) team travelling to Melbourne, Australia, last week to participate in championships have again scooped Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Competing in the ‘Oceania Cup International Weightlifting Tournament’ saw Solomon Islands ‘Iron Lady’ Jenly Wini bag another Gold medal in her records on the 58kg category.

Weightlifting athlete Freeman Hale competing in the 71kg youth and junior categories at the ‘2025 Oceania Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships’ won two Silver medals, while Robert Lafisi Hudson competing in the 65kg junior category at the same event won a Bronze medal.

SIWF Coach, Wendy Hale speaking to Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) MEDIA said the competition result is a big achievement especially for the two junior weightlifting athletes, as their results is an achievement from their commitment to hard work in training, seeing them also achieving Personal Bests (PB).

Ms Hale said the weightlifting athletes performance is very important too to their build up towards the upcoming ‘Palau 2025 Pacific Mini Games’.

This is to show that the athletes are prepared for the mini games.

“We know the mini games will be tough because Australia and New Zealand will also be participating, so the team has to be well prepared as we hope for the best outcome,” said Hale.

Coach Hale also extends her congratulation to ‘Iron Lady’ Jenly Wini on her achievement for Gold medal.

“Wini is doing great, I appreciate her always for supporting me too in trainings and guiding our weightlifting athletes to achieve our goals,” said Hale.

On behalf of SIWF team, Ms Wini thank Coach Wendy Hale for coaching the two junior weightlifters, as she also thank the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) for supporting the junior team.

Ms Wini speaking to SINIS MEDIA express that she hope they could get more support to bring a good number of junior weightlifting athletes to compete in such competitions as this is how young athletes will excel in being motivated and inspired to do better by working hard for big events.

“The weightlifting team travelling for these two competitions would also like to thank SIWF, as I myself would like to thank the Oceania Weightlifting Federation [OWF] for this invitation and sponsorship to compete amongst all elite athletes around Oceania, it was a great event,” said Wini.

Ms Wini also extends her gratitude to the current OWF General Secretary and weightlifting Coach Paul Coffa to assist coaching her during the competition.

“Respect to you Paul Coffa,” said Wini.

Solomon Islands ‘Iron Lady’ after her competition remain at Australia for the second ‘Oceania Elite Training Camp’ starting today reaching April 17, while the two junior weightlifting athletes Robert Lafisi Hudson and Freeman Hale have already returned to the country yesterday with Coach Wendy Hale.

The ‘2025 Oceania Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships’ was held from April 11-13, while the ‘Oceania Cup International Weightlifting Tournament’ was held from April 12-13.
