Founder visits Honiara to discuss the program, aiming to strengthen medical ties and offer top-tier healthcare without excessive costs.
In a significant development for the healthcare sector, Solomon Islanders will now have more affordable options to access first-class medical services in India through Medivisor India. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between quality healthcare and affordability, providing patients with access to world-class treatment facilities.
The founder of Medivisor India recently visited Honiara to discuss the benefits and logistics of the program with private General Practitioners. This visit marks a crucial step in strengthening the medical ties between the Solomon Islands and India, ensuring that residents can receive top-tier healthcare without the burden of excessive costs.
Kumar Sushant, Director of Medivisor India, stated that the estimated costs for the entire trip would be less than SBD100,000. He emphasized that the services provided by Medivisor India are comprehensive, ensuring patients receive the care and support they need from travel arrangements to hospital treatments. Sushant highlighted that this service is advisable for those who are able to travel and have illnesses that can be treated with facilities available in India, which are not provided in the Solomon Islands.
Dr. Lazarus Tavichikai of E-Call Health Medical Center is the point of contact for Medivisor India in the Solomon Islands. Tavichikai expressed his commitment to assisting Solomon Islanders seeking healthcare overseas. “I see Solomon Islanders struggling to raise between SBD500,000 to SBD600,000. These are huge amounts of money that many Solomon Islanders cannot afford to raise in a short time frame,” he said. Tavichikai also criticized the government’s ten-bed arrangement at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, noting its failure to fulfill initial promises over the years.
Common illnesses treated at the health facilities in India through Medivisor include heart diseases, cardiac-related issues requiring bypass treatments, various cancer cases, kidney transplants and infertility treatments. Since its establishment six years ago, more than 1,200 Pacific Islanders have accessed healthcare services through Medivisor in India.
Currently, the healthcare system in the Solomon Islands faces many challenges as the demand for this service increases. The Solomon Islands has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the region, affecting one in seven people. Most individuals are unaware they have the disease until complications arise, with foot amputation due to uncontrolled diabetes being the most common surgery performed.
