Grow Asia Pacific explores a partnership to boost Solomon Islands cocoa production and connect rural farmers to premium export markets.
Representatives from the Wellington-based Grow Asia Pacific group met today with the Solomon Islands High Commissioner to New Zealand, His Excellency Ishmael M. Avui, to discuss an ambitious collaboration aimed at boosting rural cocoa farming in the Solomon Islands for high-value export markets.
The initiative focuses on working directly with rural farming communities across the Solomon Islands to enhance cocoa production standards, post-harvest processing, and supply chain logistics. By raising quality standards, the partnership seeks to connect local growers to lucrative premium chocolate and artisan markets in New Zealand and Europe.
During the bilateral meeting, both parties explored strategies to build sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers, improve local infrastructure, and meet the growing global demand for ethically sourced, fine-flavor cocoa.
“Solomon Islands cocoa has incredible potential to compete at the top tier of the international market,” Ms Tamar Porat, speaking on behalf of Grow Asia Pacific. “By pairing local agricultural expertise with targeted investment and market access into New Zealand and Europe, we can create long-term economic value for rural communities.”
His Excellency Ishmael M. Avui welcomed the group’s interest in supporting agricultural development in the Solomon Islands, highlighting the alignment with national goals for rural economic empowerment and sustainable trade partnerships.
Further discussions and site visits are planned in the coming months to finalize project frameworks and community engagement programs.
