China-Aid Auki Road Project completes technical acceptance inspection, marking a milestone in Malaita’s infrastructure development.

The Malaita Provincial Government is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Technical Acceptance Inspection of the China-Aid Auki Road Project, marking a major milestone in the infrastructure development and transformation of Auki Township.

The inspection was conducted by Civil Engineer Mr Lawrence Wawane and engineers from the Solomon Islands Government Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID), together with representatives of the Malaita Provincial Government and the project team.

The project team included Project Manager Mr Liu Baodong, the site management team of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) as the contractor, and engineers from CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd. as the engineering consultants.

Following the successful site inspection, the Technical Acceptance documents were signed by the Provincial Secretary for Malaita Province, Mr Eric George, and subsequently endorsed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Mr Mike Qaqara.

Provincial Secretary Mr George expressed sincere appreciation to all parties whose commitment and collaboration made the project possible. He conveyed special gratitude to the People’s Republic of China, through the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Solomon Islands, for its generous funding.

He also acknowledged CCECC for its work as contractor, CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd. for its consultancy services, and the successive and current Solomon Islands Government, Malaita Provincial Government, and MID for their joint support throughout the project.

The Provincial Secretary further thanked resource owners, local communities, individuals and all stakeholders for their understanding, cooperation and spirit of partnership during implementation.

The successful completion of the China-Aid Auki Road Project is a tangible achievement for Auki. The improved road infrastructure will ensure safer and more efficient movement, support economic activities, enhance the township’s appearance, and improve the wellbeing of the people of Malaita.

The formal handover ceremony is scheduled for 17 November 2026 in Auki, as part of the activities marking Malaita Province’s 43rd Second Appointed Day Anniversary.

As Malaita Province moves forward under the theme “Creating a Prosperous Future through Partnership and Transformative Empowerment,” the Provincial Government calls on all citizens, businesses and communities to take ownership of this important infrastructure and to protect, maintain and care for it, together with other projects delivered through the support of the national government and development partners.
