SIRAP2 workshop strengthens airport asset management to improve aviation safety and infrastructure across Solomon Islands
The Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA), through the Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2) with support from the World Bank, has successfully concluded the second Regional Airport Asset Maintenance Workshop aimed at strengthening capacity in the management and maintenance of airport infrastructure across Solomon Islands.
On Wednesday 29 July, 2026, representatives from Solomon Islands Airports Corporation Limited (SIACL) participated in the workshop in Honiara delivered by the consultant, a Joint Venture between Gyros Corporation and Pacific Consultants Company Limited.
The workshop focused on improving participants’ understanding of modern asset management approaches and strengthening systems for the effective planning, operation, and maintenance of regional airport infrastructure. Key topics covered included Asset Management Plan (AMP) approaches, inventory development policies and processes, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Corrective Maintenance Plans (CMP), Preventative Maintenance Plan (PMP), and a spare parts stock plan. The consultant also introduced a digitisation of asset inventories and management plans, potential methodologies and tools, and capacity development strategies
Through presentations, discussions and practical knowledge sharing, participants gained valuable insights into improving airport asset management practices, including the use of reliable asset data to support better maintenance planning, improve operational efficiency, and extend the lifespan of critical aviation infrastructure.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Aviation, Mr. Alwyn Danitofea, highlighted the importance of strengthening asset management systems to support the long-term sustainability of Solomon Islands’ aviation infrastructure.
“Effective management and maintenance of our airport assets is critical to ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable air services throughout Solomon Islands. Through initiatives such as this workshop, we are strengthening the capacity of our institutions and improving the systems and tools needed to better plan, manage and maintain our aviation infrastructure for the benefit of our communities and future generations.” said Mr. Danitofea.
The workshop forms part of SIRAP2’s broader commitment to enhancing the safety, sustainability, and resilience of the aviation sector by strengthening institutional capacity and improving the management of airport assets across the country.
