Prosperity Farm submits acquittal report for SBD 125,000 MALD grant supporting poultry expansion on Guadalcanal Plains.
Prosperity Farm Supplies Co Ltd has successfully submitted its financial acquittal and grant utilization report for the 2025 agricultural support funding received from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MALD).
The grant, valued at SBD 125,000, was awarded to support the expansion of poultry layer production at the company’s farm on the Guadalcanal Plains. The funding consisted of an approved grant allocation of SBD 75,000 along with an additional SBD 50,000 interim support provided by MALD to assist with operational liquidity during the processing period through the government’s financial system.
The financial acquittal report outlines how the funds were used to strengthen the farm’s production infrastructure and improve operational capacity. A major component of the investment included the purchase and installation of 160 poultry layer cages sourced through a local supplier in Honiara. The improved housing system has significantly improved bird management, farm efficiency, and egg production capacity.
In addition to poultry infrastructure, part of the funding supported the construction of a new piggery facility designed to accommodate a 100-sow pig production unit. The project included the procurement of essential building materials such as corrugated iron roofing, bricks, cement, and construction tools. A concrete mixer was also acquired to assist with building works and to support on-farm livestock feed mixing.
Prosperity Farm Supplies Co Ltd Manager, Dr. Maclean Vaqalo said the support from MALD has played an important role in strengthening local livestock production.
“The financial support provided by the Ministry has enabled our farmers to expand its infrastructure and improve production systems. This investment contributes directly to increasing local egg supply and strengthening livestock farming capacity in the country,” he said.
The developments achieved through the grant are expected to improve the farm’s ability to supply fresh eggs to markets in Honiara while also expanding integrated livestock farming activities.
MALD Acting Director of the Livestock and Veterinary Services Department Obed Maneara said the ministry is pleased to support genuine farmers across the country.
“MALD is pleased to support genuine farmers like Prosperity Farm who continue to prosper despite limited support from government authorities, therefore we are happy to note the progress made by the farmer,” he said.
Meanwhile, MALD Permanent Secretary Dr Samson Viulu said the ministry will continue to support farmers across the country under its strategy to develop the agriculture sector.
“The funding assistance is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic production of poultry nationwide and empower indigenous farmers, the ultimate goal of assisting our indigenous farmers to help reduce the retail price of chicken and eggs, build a domestic brand for Solomon Islands and ultimately enable every single child to eat an egg before going to school, given that egg is the one of the nutritionally complete food with many of the vital nutrients.”
Dr Viulu also called on all agriculture grant recipients to follow the example set by Prosperity Farm and submit reports to the ministry on how the funds they received were used.
