FlySolomons Peace Marathon returns 30 August in Honiara, blending sport, peace, and Solomon Islands’ WWII history

Honiara – Solomon Airlines will host the annual FlySolomons Peace Marathon this Saturday, 30 August 2025, bringing together international and local athletes for a sporting event that also highlights the Solomon Islands’ World War II history.
International runners have begun arriving in Honiara, with more expected on Thursday and Friday ahead of the marathon. Most visiting athletes will participate in the full marathon and half marathon events.
The course includes historic World War II sites on Guadalcanal, such as Bloody Ridge, Henderson Airport, Fighter 1, Hells Point, and Tenaru School. Organisers say the event combines sport and history, offering participants and spectators the opportunity to experience the nation’s heritage while promoting peace and global unity.
Solomon Airlines acknowledged the support of event partner Travel Solomons, which is assisting with airport arrivals, shuttle transfers, and accommodation arrangements for international participants.
“The FlySolomons Peace Marathon is more than a race; it’s a chance to showcase the Solomon Islands’ rich WW2 history, culture and hospitality to the world,” said John Wopereis, Manager Commercial at Solomon Airlines. “We are thrilled to welcome international runners to Guadalcanal and for them to experience the Marathon in key WW2 locations such as the Bloody Ridge National Historical Park, we want to see this event grow each year, strengthening our tourism profile and promoting peace and unity.”
Registration will remain open until Friday, 29 August 2025, with both local and international participants invited to take part.
