MP Claudius Tei’ifi reappointed to lead Bina Harbour Project, reaffirming commitment to development and stability.
The Member of Parliament for West Kwaio Constituency, Claudius Tei’ifi, has been reappointed as Chairman of the Bina Harbour Tuna Processing Project Cabinet Sub-Committee under the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC).
The reappointment confirms Tei’ifi’s continued responsibility to lead and oversee the planning and implementation of the Bina Harbour Project—an ongoing national development initiative expected to bring significant benefits to the people of West Kwaio, Malaita Province, and the broader Solomon Islands.
“The political situation over the past few days has been challenging, but I made a swift decision in the interest of national stability and, above all, for the good of my people in West Kwaio,” Tei’ifi said.
He explained that his earlier resignation was a constitutional right exercised in good faith but was later revoked after dialogue within the Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT). “The decision to remain with the government was made in consensus and reflects our collective commitment to stability, development, and progress.”
Tei’ifi reaffirmed his support for GNUT, emphasizing that stable governance is essential for long-term national planning, economic growth, and social cohesion. “As a national leader, I believe in promoting good governance, transparency, and the efficient use of resources for all Solomon Islanders,” he stated.
In response to misinformation circulating on social media, Tei’ifi clarified that no public statement regarding his resignation was issued or authorised by him. “The statements shared online were misleading, taken out of context, and designed to damage my reputation. I did not consent to any such release,” he added.
He extended an apology to Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, former Deputy Prime Minister Bradley Tovosia, and any others affected by the unauthorised post.
Tei’ifi also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Manele, Deputy Prime Minister Fredrick Kologeto, Cabinet Ministers, and fellow backbenchers for their continued trust and support. “The Bina Harbour Project remains a top priority of my leadership,” he said. “I welcome the Prime Minister’s visit to the region in March 2025, during which he personally assured my constituents of the government’s commitment to the project.”
In February 2025, a government delegation led by Prime Minister Manele presented the Bina Harbour Business Case to the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, signalling efforts to engage development partners and secure financial backing.
Once completed, the Bina Harbour Tuna Processing Project is expected to create up to 1,600 direct jobs and support related sectors including transport, agriculture, and local supply chains. Tei’ifi acknowledged the resource owners and the Bina Region Arrangements for Governance (BRAG) team for their involvement and commitment to ensuring landowner participation in project benefits.
“I remain optimistic about the future and reaffirm my loyalty to the Government of National Unity and Transformation,” he concluded. “With the Motion of No Confidence behind us, I call on all citizens to work together for meaningful development in our country.”
