SPBD Solomon Islands partners with Sunpower to expand solar energy access, empowering communities with sustainable power solutions.

SPBD Solomon Islands is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Sunpower Limited, a leading commercial and retail solar power provider in the Solomon Islands. This collaboration aims to provide SPBD members with increased access to Sunpower’s innovative solar energy products and services, significantly enhancing access to electricity and light across the Solomon Islands.
Through this partnership, SPBD Solomon Islands will be able to offer its members greater opportunities to harness solar energy, thereby promoting sustainable, reliable, and low-cost electricity solutions for local communities. By providing access to high-quality solar products and financial education, this collaboration will support the growth and resilience of households and businesses, strengthening economic opportunities and energy stability in local communities.

“We are incredibly honored to partner with Sunpower Limited on this initiative,” said Raymond McCarthy, General Manager of SPBD Solomon Islands. “This collaboration will empower many families and entrepreneurs in the Solomon Islands to access the solar energy solutions they need to build a brighter, more sustainable future. Together, we are committed to fostering sustainable growth and energy resilience across our communities.”

Greg Casagrande, Founder and CEO of SPBD Microfinance, echoed these sentiments, stating, “At SPBD, our mission has always been to empower families and communities by providing meaningful financial opportunity and capacity building. We believe that access to electricity is a cornerstone of economic development and financial inclusion. We are grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to bring positive change to the Solomon Islands.”
Since its inception, SPBD has been committed to improving the quality of life of families across the South Pacific by providing access to vital financial services, business training, and opportunities for asset-building. With this new partnership, SPBD Solomon Islands will be able to extend its services to even more entrepreneurs and families, offering a path out of poverty and toward financial independence through sustainable energy access.

About Sunpower Solomon Islands:
Sunpower’s mission is to power the lives of underserved customers by designing and distributing a line of affordable solar home energy solutions for households and businesses that are completely off, or lack reliable access to the grid. Our products range from small portable solar lights and torches to multi-light solar home systems, security lights and larger scale commercial solar installations. We serve Solomon Islanders seeking a clean and sustainable source of energy for their homes and share with our customers, the common goal of reducing the expensive cost of electricity.
About SPBD Microfinance Network
Founded in 2000, SPBD’s mission is to improve the quality of life of underprivileged families by providing them with meaningful economic opportunities to help lift them permanently out of poverty. SPBD is especially focused on empowering women to start, grow and maintain micro-businesses through the provision of access to financial and business development services as well as the opportunity to build assets, improve financial security and finance housing improvements and education. SPBD’s vision is to create a network of financially self-sufficient and scalable micro-enterprise development organisations throughout the South Pacific and today operations in Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, and Vanuatu in addition to the Solomon Islands.
