Government Sponsors Miss Pacific Pageant

Solomon Islands Government commits SB$2 million for Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2025, promoting women’s empowerment.

The Solomon Islands Government has committed SB$2 million as the Major Sponsor for the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2025, reinforcing its support for gender equality, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation.

Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele said the government is proud to back the event, which highlights the role of Pacific women in leadership and advocacy.

“Our people take great pride in our heritage, our traditions, and our land. As we welcome all of you to our shores, we celebrate our Pacific connections, knowing that we are bound together by shared values, mutual respect, care for our environment, and the importance of family and community,” Manele said.

The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant has evolved beyond a beauty contest into a platform for young women to address critical regional issues, such as climate change, social inequality, health, and economic challenges.

“These challenges are not confined to any one country. They are shared by all of us,” Manele said.

He emphasized that contestants can use the pageant to raise awareness and push for solutions to the region’s pressing issues.

“You represent a new generation of young leaders who are strong advocates for climate action, champions for social justice, and voices for sustainable development,” he said.

Manele urged participants to use their platform to speak on issues affecting Pacific communities, particularly the threats posed by climate change, including rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and biodiversity loss.

The Solomon Islands previously hosted the event in 2013, when it was known as the Miss South Pacific Beauty Pageant. The name change reflects the pageant’s shift toward women’s empowerment and leadership.
