Solomon Power Iumi Play U14 Championship Kicks Off with Enthusiasm for Youth Development at the Henderson DC Park.
Henderson’s DC Park came alive over the weekend as the Solomon Power Iumi Play U14 Championship commenced, showcasing the young talents of nine Provincial Football Association (PFA) teams.
This competition serves as a pivotal platform for burgeoning football stars to gain valuable experience and to demonstrate their skills on the national stage. The Iumi Play Programme, a cornerstone of football promotion in the Solomon Islands, has been instrumental in nurturing and harnessing talent at the grassroots level. The program’s structured football training, which spans across all 50 constituencies in the country and caters to children aged 7 to 12, has been a catalyst for honing skills and cultivating passion for the game.
Since 2021, Solomon Power has been a stalwart supporter of the Iumi Play Programme, assuming the role of the major sponsor for the Iumi Plei football grassroots initiative.
Ahead of the tournament’s kick-off, the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Secretariat endorsed a safeguarding theme for the championship: “Keep Children Safe in Football.” This theme not only underscores the importance of protecting the welfare of all those involved in the sport but also emphasizes the need for accountability and awareness.
The Umi Play competition promises a week filled with exciting matches and displays of youthful skills. Adding to the excitement, it is anticipated that FIFA President Gianni Infantino will grace the occasion by attending the games this afternoon.
