Governor General Sir David Kapu receives Thailand’s new ambassador as Solomon Islands and Thailand mark 40 years of ties
The Governor General, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu, received the Letter of Credence from the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Solomon Islands, Her Excellency Miss Arjaree Srirantanaban, at Government House this morning, 12 August 2026.
The presentation of credentials marks an important milestone as Solomon Islands and Thailand celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations, established on 2 May 1986.
Sir David welcomed Ambassador Srirantanaban and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure.
He expressed confidence that under her leadership, both countries will further strengthen their relationship and identify potential areas of mutual interest for future cooperation, particularly in tourism, agriculture and education.
The Governor General also acknowledged the good work of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency in providing opportunities for Solomon Islanders through short-term training, Masters programmes and fellowships in Thailand.
“We sincerely thank your Government for its contributions to the development of Solomon Islands’ human resources and look forward to continued cooperation in this important sector.”
He said cooperation over the years has been positive and beneficial, based on mutual interest, trust and respect for each other’s shared values and goals for a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.
